Boca Chica.- Despite national mourning following the Jet Set nightclub tragedy, Boca Chica beach merchants have voiced frustration over government restrictions imposed for the Easter holiday. Authorities have banned mass beach parties and regulated alcohol sales to ensure public safety, but local business owners fear the measures will lead to a significant drop in revenue.
Popular establishments such as Bocana have already closed, and others like Venecia and El Chévere report decreased foot traffic, even though their primary sales are not alcohol-related. The once-busy beach appears unusually empty, reflecting the impact of the regulations on tourism and local commerce.
Although Boca Chica was not among the 266 beaches officially closed, the nationwide preventive operation—led by the Joint Task Force and Dominican Navy—has tightened controls across tourist zones. From April 14 to 20, the Ministry of Tourism’s resolution bans the street sale and distribution of alcohol on beaches and during excursions to promote safety and responsible behavior during the holiday period.
