The economic crises that have shaken Europe following the COVID-19 pandemic have caused many tourists to limit their budgets for visiting other destinations, including the Dominican Republic. This trend is slowly beginning to change for those residing in certain countries of the Old Continent.

Between January and March 2025, the number of non-resident foreigners arriving by air totaled 2,320,725 passengers, driven by a significant influx of North American tourists, who accounted for 57.98% of the total, according to data from the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD).

From Europe, 254,001 passengers entered the country, representing a tourist flow of approximately 91.53% of the 277,500 Europeans who visited the country in the first quarter of 2024.

Finland led the issuance of tourists from that region, with 52,797 passengers, representing a 7,641% increase from the 682 passengers who arrived between January and March of last year, which demonstrates significant dynamism from Northern Europe, according to Diario Libre.

This was followed by Ireland, destination from which 27,812 tourists departed between January and March of this year, 2,885 % more than the 941 who arrived during the same period last year, and Hungary, from which 40,188 passengers departed, leaving far behind the 2,608 Hungarians who were here last year, for an increase of 1,440 %.

The tourist flow also grew from countries such as:

Norway (from 887 passengers to 18,608, an increase of 1,997 %)
Greece (from 541 to 5,503 passengers, an increase of 917 %)
Sweden (from 1,327 to 9,915, an increase of 647 %)
Russia (from 860 to 2,592, an increase of 201 %)
Luxembourg (from 602 to 806, 33.89 % more)
Portugal (from 4,430 to 5,718, an increase of 29.07 %).
