Playa Dorado Dominican Republic
Playa Dorado Dominican Republic makes the top of list of Dominican Republic destinations for two reasons: beaches and golf. It seems to be a winning combination and the two main reasons this area draws thousands each year. Set on the picturesque northern coast of the island, Dorado Beach Dominican Republic is only a few miles from the most easterly part of Puerto Plata and also near beautiful, cliff-bordered Sosua. More than a dozen large-scale resorts hug the beaches of Playa Dorado, while the rest of the area is laden with dining, shopping, and entertainment options. Yet, if it’s beaches you seek, you won’t need to look for reasons to stay on them. Their beauty is reason enough to stay anchored and soak it in.

Staying on the coast at Playa Dorado has many advantages with few disadvantages doing little to sway visitors. The area is one of the most highly developed on the island, and while the extensive infrastructure is definitely a big appeal to those who love the lifestyle at large resorts, popularity can often be the direct avenue to plenty of crowds. Playa Dorado also fronts the Atlantic Ocean, where the waters are known to be more tumultuous than those of the calm, turquoise Caribbean. This location also welcomes plentiful rain in the winter months. With that on the table, these few detriments do nothing to thin crowds, illustrating the good far outweighs any inconveniences.

There is no better set-up for facilities as there is along Dorado Beach Dominican Republic. There are dozens of restaurants all along the strand, from large resort restaurants featuring a la carte restaurants to small, independently owned cafes, and grills serving up fresh, local fare. With plenty of tall palms and easily accessed beach umbrellas, shade is never much of a concern either. Sports fans will love the variety of kiosks offering all types of rentals, from cheap snorkeling equipment to full-body diving gear. On particularly congested days, head west toward Playa Luperon for some serious peace and quiet.

Each of the resorts on Playa Dorado Dominican Republic own a private section of beach, which is ample and usually spotted with plenty of beach chairs, sun beds, and umbrellas. On one end of Dorado is Ventana Beach Resort and from that area are some of the best views of the entire beach and a magnificent panorama of the area. There are several excellent reefs along this stretch of beach, both close to the shore and off shore which affords some of the best north shore island snorkeling available. Water skiing is a sport that can be tried along the beach, but because of the many waves, it can be more work than fun some days. Both kiteboarding and windsurfing are easy pursuits with rentals available all along the beach.

The Robert Trent Jones 18-hole course is why many visitors head to Dorado Beach Dominican Republic. Inspired by the incredible beauty embracing the area, Jones created the course in Puerto Plata with amazing greens, a par 72, and many holes by the ocean, creating some exceptionally difficult play. Move on from an afternoon golf game to one of the many world class restaurants within Playa Dorado, some with stunning views of the surrounding landscape. After aperitifs, Playa Dorado’s nightlife calls, with ample lively bars, festive local music, and delicious local eats.
