The General Directorate of Passports (DGP) reaffirmed its commitment to modernizing the passport issuance system in the Dominican Republic, highlighting progress in implementing the electronic passport, a key step to improving security and streamlining citizen processes.
The institution’s general director, Lorenzo David RamÃrez, explained that the entity is working on a transformation process to offer a more efficient, safe service per international standards.
“The electronic passport is an urgent need for our country. Not only will it provide greater security to citizens, but it will allow for more agile recognition in migration systems worldwide,” said RamÃrez.
To achieve this objective, the DGP has developed a strategic plan that includes modernizing infrastructures, optimizing processes, and integrating state-of-the-art technology in the issuance of documents. Currently, the institution operates 15 offices nationwide, and expansion to 22 more locations is planned to improve accessibility to the service.
The official also stressed that implementing the electronic passport requires adapting spaces with greater connectivity, a secure data center, and a specialized vault for notebook storage, thus guaranteeing the protection of citizen information.
With this step, the Dominican Republic is moving towards a more advanced identification system, according to RCN, raising the quality and reliability of its passport in the international arena.
