Santo Domingo.- Tourism Minister David Collado declared that Holy Week 2025 marked the best in Dominican Republic history for tourist arrivals. Between Monday and Friday of the holiday week, approximately 170,000 tourists arrived—out of an expected 200,000—reflecting a 5% increase compared to the same period last year.

Collado made the announcement during a visit to Las Marías resort in Bahoruco province, as part of a tour through the southern region, which also included Boca de Cachón in Jimaní. He highlighted the peaceful atmosphere in which Dominicans, particularly the youth, were enjoying their time despite the nation’s mourning following the loss of 232 lives earlier in the year.

At Las Marías, Collado was warmly welcomed by vacationers and accompanied by local authorities, including the mayors of Villa Jaragua, Neiba, and Tamayo—Iván Arístides Medina Trinidad, Yadell Suberví, and Juana Cristina Mateo—as well as Governor María Esther Díaz Medina and other officials.
