Santo Domingo.- Jean Luis Rodríguez, executive director of the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom), highlighted the institution’s efforts in transforming coastal areas through major infrastructure projects, benefiting local communities. He credited the achievements to the dedication of Apordom’s team and emphasized the visible progress in ports nationwide.

Key projects include a US$60 million investment in Manzanillo’s new gas terminal, funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The authority has also inaugurated tourist docks in Río San Juan, Cabrera, Puerto Plata, and Sánchez, while the Taíno Bay terminal welcomed 800,000 cruise passengers last year. Additional developments include new terminals in Arroyo Barril and Higüey, expansion of La Romana’s dock to accommodate larger vessels, and the San Pedro-Mayagüez Ferry, a milestone for San Pedro de Macorís’ economic growth.

Rodríguez also detailed ongoing expansions in Boca Chica, Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Azua, and Barahona, where a multimodal port is being developed. In Pedernales, Port Cabo Rojo is operational, and Yuma is set to receive two new terminals. He underscored Apordom’s financial self-sufficiency, generating annual revenues of approximately 200 million pesos, ensuring sustainable and transparent port management.
