Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader celebrated the Dominican Republic’s achievement of maintaining Category 1 airline status after passing the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspection and meeting operational safety standards.
“This certification opens the door for more airlines to fly and compete for routes to the United States,” President Abinader stated, emphasizing the government’s full support for ensuring the safety of airline operations. He noted that this certification is crucial for the growth of the tourism sector, particularly for U.S. routes, and stressed the importance of maintaining high safety standards. “Our goal is not just to pass inspections but to exceed them in terms of security,” he added.
The president highlighted the need for unity in the aviation sector to foster growth, increase competition, lower fares, and boost tourism across all sectors.
The FAA certification, confirming the country’s continued Category 1 status, was presented during an event at the Cariátides Hall of the National Palace. Attendees included the interim director of IDAC, Igor Rodríguez Durán; U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Patricia Aguilera; Dominican Air Force Commander General Carlos Febrillet Rodríguez; and the president of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), José Marte Piantini.
